What is art therapy?
Art Therapy is an integrative mental health and human services profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship. Art Therapy, facilitated by a professional art therapist, effectively supports personal and relational treatment goals as well as community concerns. Art Therapy is used to improve cognitive and sensory-motor functions, foster self-esteem and self-awareness, cultivate emotional resilience, promote insight, enhance social skills, reduce and resolve conflicts and distress, and advance societal and ecological change. Art Therapy at Art of Healing
Our team of therapists all have specialized training in art therapy. If you are interested in art therapy, your therapist will support you in this journey and provide guidance on how to incorporate the use of art making in your individualized treatment. Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates the use of art-making in a therapeutic session. The act of art-making in itself can be therapeutic as well as provide opportunities to explore thoughts and emotions, creative expression, and provide space for introspection. Art-making can enhance the therapeutic session by accessing thoughts and ideas that are difficult to put into words or are unknown to the individual. Art therapy is for any and all individuals, couples and families and you do not have to be a trained artist to use art therapy.
